Before you include local information in your presentation, it’s crucial to take the time to make sure it’s coming from credible sources. This section will cover how to find credible online and print resources.
Do a quick Internet search, and you’ll find a wealth of information about drugs, drug abuse, and related stories. A lot of it is solid, credible information, but a lot of it isn’t. How do you know if the online information you’re including in your presentation is credible?
First, examine where it’s coming from. It’s not recommended to include information found on personal blogs, public forums, unreferenced articles, or non-government sponsored websites. The most reliable information can be found on .gov or .edu sites, sites devoted to scholarly writing. Research-based sites like The Partnership For a Drug Free America at www.drugfree.org, well-known encyclopedias, and archival sites that include referenced newspaper articles or official publications are also good places to find credible information online.
