“Teen Viewing of Drug and Alcohol-Related Videos Online: Custom Study Conduct on Behalf of ONDCP,” neilsen online, Gibs, Jon and Brauer, John, September 2008
A new analysis of online videos reveals that parents should be concerned about the number of videos promoting dangerous behaviors, including drug use. The study reveals that:
- During June, 2008, almost one million teens (5 percent of teens viewing online video) were exposed to one or more drug-related videos and more than one-third viewing drug-related content are under 16 years of age.
- Of the teens viewing the videos, 57 percent were female.
- Almost 40 percent of drug-related videos contain explicit use of drugs and/or intoxication.
- Of these videos, 85 percent were more likely to contain comments that promote drug and alcohol use.
