Experts Attack Drug Problem from a Variety of Angles

Oct 19, 2012

Experts and community members gathered in Carrollton, Ga. for its seventh annual Drug Awareness Summit to discuss the effects of and how to deal withdrug abuse. The Carroll Meth Awareness Coalition helped sponsor the summit to provide local people with the opportunity to learn more about the drugs affecting the community and to help end the problems.

Going beyond the meth epidemic, summit speakers addressed a variety of drugs that are growing in popularity, such as prescription drugs and synthetic drugs. Experts warned that legal drugs can be more dangerous than illegal drugs. Even though law enforcement fights the sale of synthetic drugs through legislation, producers can alter the chemical makeup of the drugs making them legal again. Experts stressed that fighting these drugs can only be accomplished through a variety of tactics including community involvement, education, and treatment.
