Grip of Meth Addiction Felt Across Midwest

Trailing only alcohol and marijuana, methamphetamine (meth) has outpaced heroin and cocaine to become one of the most frequently used drugs in many Midwestern states. Use can have toxic side effects, including convulsions and death, but abusers aren’t the only ones affected by meth. The effects of meth use during pregnancy include the increased risk of premature delivery, deformities, tremors, and more. Children exposed to meth labs risk inhalation and absorption or ingestion of precursors or the drug itself and are endangered by an increased possibility of fires and explosions, hazardous living conditions, abuse, and neglect.
